Nari Oh (Korean: 오나리, Oh Na-ri), is the protagonist of Odd Girl Out. At first, she has low self-esteem and lacks confidence in her relationships and appearance. As the webtoon goes on, Nari becomes a strong, good-hearted, selfless and confident person who stands up for herself and others. Currently, she is a second-year student at C.H. High, where she ranks 2nd academically.

Appearance[]

Nari is considered average-looking, especially when she's with Yuna, Mirae and Seonji. She is short and has pale skin; Mirae said she has "milky white" skin. Nari's hair is short, wavy, and a reddish-brown color, and she sometimes ties her hair back. Nari has gone through several hairstyles: wavy hair and long bangs, an extremely short and curly (poodle-like) hair, and straight hair with puffy bangs, the latter two styled by Youngchang Song. Nari has large monolid eyes and receives many compliments on her large eyes.

Background[]

Being the daughter of a baker from the family-owned Tortoise Bakery, Nari thought she was destined to be chubby forever. In the last year of middle school, she started a diet because of boys teasing and mocking her and successfully loses weight, becoming more confident in herself in the process. Soon after, once she begins high school, her confidence is crushed, having befriended the school's three prettiest girls: Yuna Lim, Mirae Seo, and Seonji Lim.

Yuna was Nari's childhood friend, but their friendship unfortunately ended due to a misunderstanding. When she meets Yuna again in high school, Nari is uncomfortable with how hard she tries to rebuild that friendship.

She was also friends with another girl, Miji, during elementary school. When Nari and Yuna ended their friendship, Miji became Nari's closest friend, which lasted through middle school as well. Although Nari looked after Miji often during this time, Miji was often shown being selfish around Nari, and considered Nari to be beneath her, a fact that Yuna calls her out on later on in the series.

Nari is easily able to get along with other girls, and rarely lacks friends. Because of this, it was difficult for her to cope when she suddenly became an outcast in her class in high school.

Personality[]

Nari is a very warm-hearted and caring person, which is a reason why she has so many friends. This is partially due to her being a daughter of a baker (and having readily available snacks to share with classmates), but also because she is kind in nature. Since she had many friends, she doesn't regret severing ties with friends when a relationship goes sour. She initially had an inferiority complex because of her new friends being more beautiful than her, and was uncomfortable around them in the beginning, and later on realized that she was judging them based on appearance, and overcame her initial assumptions. With her kind nature, she is also known to be quite confident and assertive, and usually has no trouble speaking her mind.

Relationships[]

Yuna Lim[]

Nari has been friends with Yuna since they were children, though their relationship mainly consisted of Yuna bossing around the clueless Nari. After Yuna's car accident, Nari was the only person she was comfortable around and Nari stayed by her side. Despite their close friendship, there have been wedges thrown their way, such as when Miji and Yuna's classmate Yerim conspired to cause a rift between the two that nearly led to the downfall of their friendship. They do eventually rekindle their friendship in high school. Even after finding out that Miji came between her and Nari, Yuna lets her off easy and chooses not to tell Nari the truth since it would be the end of their friendship for good while, also reassuring Nari Miji wasn't responsible. Because of Nari's loyalty, Nari is the only person Yuna is nice to and is now her closest friend.

Seungha Kwon[]

Seungha and Nari's relationship got off to a bad start; his class was right above Nari's, and everyday, Seungha's classmates would horse around instead of studying, which would create a lot of noise. This made studying for Nari's class very difficult. After a few times of this, Nari went upstairs to have a talk with Seungha about it. She asked Seungha and his class to keep it down, however, Seungha used his good looks against Nari, and promised her they would try to keep it down. When the class upstairs continued to make noise, Nari once again went upstairs, but this time, the class complained that Nari was being too sensitive about the whole situation. Angry, Nari and her classmates get revenge; they created a schedule for the times when the class above was the most tired, and each time, they would bang at the ceiling, creating a lot of noise. Seungha, now furious, went down to Nari's class, and discovered the schedule and the tools Nari's class used for revenge. Seungha once again tried to use his charm on Nari, to convince her to stop making noise, however, this time Nari told him off, and kicked him out of the classroom. This resulted in a noise war between the two classes, which would eventually lead Nari and Seungha to be lectured by the teachers. Nari showed the teachers the recording she had taken of the noise Seungha's class had made, and the teachers, now sympathetic with Nari, agreed the noise was very loud. Noticing how Nari was trying to pin the blame on his class, Seungha tries to pin the blame on her, but because of Nari's good reputation among the teachers, they didn't believe him.
